Elf Haus FAQ: Booking, Pets & Altitude in Fairplay, CO

The house sits at 11,000 feet above sea level (3352 meters). If you are not used to this altitude, we recommend taking it easy until you are acclimated. Drinking plenty of water and not exerting yourself too hard will help with this adjustment.

We're proudly pet friendly. Read our guide for traveling with dogs in Fairplay. Up to 2 dogs are permitted during a stay. there will be an additional charge for a dog (we do extra cleaning between pet stays) and they must be well behaved and on a leash outside of the house. We kindly ask that your pet does not sit on the furniture. We regret that due to allergies cats are not permitted.

Elf Haus makes a peaceful, private home base for an elopement. Couples are welcome to stay with us and get ready at the cabin before heading to a ceremony at a scenic spot nearby. We do not host events or parties at the property, but we are open to considering one-off requests. If you have something special in mind, please contact us before booking so we can talk through the details.Colorado is also one of the few self-solemnization states in the country, meaning you can legally marry without an officiant — and the Park County Clerk's office for your marriage license is right here in Fairplay. Check-in is at 4:00 pm, and Check-out is at 10:00 am.

We have starlink satellite available at the property. If you work remotely, Elf Haus has a dedicated workspace with a desk, chair, and extra monitor, plus fast, reliable internet that handles video calls and streaming. Satellite speeds can vary, but guests can expect a strong connection for work or play.

It depends on what you see as your perfect getaway. adventures and relaxation are possible year-round at the Elf Haus. Summer and fall are conducive to festivals, hiking, running, and fishing, as well as relaxing in a chair or hammock outside. Winter and spring are geared toward skiing, snow sports, and cozying up by the fireplace.

For bookings made directly on our website, you get a full refund if you cancel at least 31 days before check-in, and a 50% refund if you cancel 15 to 30 days before check-in. Cancellations made less than 15 days before check-in are non-refundable. Airbnb and VRBO policies vary slightly, so please check the policy shown when you book. We recommend trip insurance for added peace of mind.

Yes. The private hot tub is available all year, so you can soak after a day on the slopes in winter or a summer hike in the mountains.

Elf Haus does not have air conditioning. At about 11,000 feet, summer nights are cool and the cabin stays comfortable without it.

Yes. During the winter months, a 4WD vehicle is required to reach Elf Haus, and snow tires or chains are strongly recommended. Please check the forecast and road conditions before you travel.
